I think I might be amoral. Not completely, you understand. I don't think I could ever kill anyone, at least not without some serious self-defence / defence of others clauses, a blindfold and lots of post-slaughter counseling. I can't really hurt people. I've tried punching a few, but I usually wimp out at the last second. My wrist buckles and I only hurt myself. I'm also honest. I know my mother's credit card number and expiry date off by heart, and I've lost count of the amount of times she's sent me off to the ATM machine, by myself, to get her money. I work in a charity bookstore and am entrusted with counting up the day's takings and depositing them in the bank. I've never stolen any of it. I don't steal. At least, I don't steal money.
But I do steal data. I steal music and movies and episodes of things from the internet. And the thing is, I don't feel particularly bad about it.
I understand why it's wrong. I have a lot of come-backs to that one as well -
("the music industry is drastically overpriced... by downloading music I have actually become a fan of many new bands which has lead me to buy their albums at a later date ... many of the episodes I download aren't for sale ... many episodes and films I do download I end up buying anyway when they're released...")
- and I believe them all. But the problem is, sometimes, I download something, I really like it, I enjoy it, and I don't go out and buy it when it's released, and it doesn't make me buy anything related to it, and nobody has gotten a single penny from me.
And I don't really feel bad about that... And I'm not really sure why. So I suppose, on occasion, I slip into amorality.
As an end tag - I am now an amoral 20 year old. My birthday was on the hottest day ever recorded in Britain. As birthday-coincidences go, it's not a bad one. But I preferred it when I got a total eclipse for my sixteenth.
